With the fall season coming to a close, the focus of Baron athletics is on another direction: Varsity Wrestling. Tryouts were completed this past weekend, and the anticipation for the season is high. Long-time member Zev Glaser presents some insight about the upcoming season.
Tryouts are a stressful time for many; the environment surrounding wrestling, in particular, can be especially demanding. Zev shares his thoughts on the expectations surrounding tryouts: “Tryouts are really to push people and see how hard they want to work, as wrestling is not an easy sport. It’s a lot of physical conditioning, and it will weed out people who don’t want to wrestle, and the people that do will be there to learn.”
Because wrestling is a winter sport, off-season preparations are crucial to keep the players in shape and ready for the season. Zev shed some light on what the players can do to continue practicing within our community: “Our youth club that practices at B-CC has invited some of the high school wrestling guys to come by and work on technique. There [are] a lot of wrestling clubs around the area. A lot of our guys will come and do off-season lifts.”
Finally, Zev states what he looks forward to most with the team: “I’m most excited for the competitions and hanging out with the team, it’s amazing when we’re out there winning matches. The environment is great. The wrestling team is amazing.”
Barons wrestling is a team full of community surrounded by a rich environment. As the season quickly approaches, off-season preparations will need to show in highly anticipated and competitive tryouts. Although students may face intense pressure, tryouts offer a learning experience for everyone involved. Zev is one of many members of the wrestling team filled with excitement and determination for the upcoming season.
