After the Final Inning

On Saturday, May 9th, the Barons’ baseball season unfortunately came to an end with a 6-2 loss to the defending champions, Walter Johnson. Overall, the Barons had an incredibly impressive season, going 14-8 overall and 7-4 regionally, finishing 3rd in the region. As Junior Lincoln Fisher put it, “[We] had lots of ups and downs, but that’s what makes a great season.”

The Barons remained consistent and improved as the season progressed. They started 7-5 through their first 12 games and finished 13-8, going 4-1 in their last 5 games to finish strong.  Regular season highlights included sweeping 2-game series against both Whitman and Richard Montgomery, along with a narrow 6-5 victory over Blair.

The Barons experienced a few losses and games in which they didn’t perform to their expectations, but in the end, they overcame this challenge, leading the team to success. Senior Griffin Clear explained their biggest challenges as “our lack of unity in our hardest times.” Although losses faced a challenge, the Barons overcame difficulty together by building chemistry and keeping their heads up. Junior Lincoln Fisher explains one memorable moment of the season as “beating Whitman and winning in the first round of the playoffs.”

The Barons’ first playoff game against Churchill was on Thursday, May 7th, and the Barons secured a monumental win against a team that had beaten them 15-14 during the regular season. The game started with the Barons down 4-0, but the team was able to come back and make it 5-4, closing out the game with an out on home plate– a play by senior Jayson Cohen. The Barons faced Walter Johnson in the next round two days later, Saturday, May 9th, but unfortunately lost to the defending champs, capping off a very strong season.

Following a strong season like this, the team has high expectations for next year. With rising seniors like Oren Wortman and Ethan Banks, and rising juniors who have been playing on varsity, Jesse Orford, Noah Hecht, and George Cropp, the team is built for success in the near future

For the team to improve next year and learn from this year’s success, they must first understand what makes the team so special. As Junior Zach Cantor explained, “[they] have to find [their] own identity next year” and “ find who [they] are early on”.

Overall, it looks like the baseball team had a great season. B-CC baseball anticipates star players to emerge next season, and continues a good mindset to surpass this year’s performance. Lincoln Fisher explained his outlook on next season, saying, “It’s one game at a time, but we truly believe next year could be our year.”
