Levi Shum, a senior at Winston Churchill High School, tragically passed away due to injuries sustained from being bitten by a shark while fishing on vacation in Mexico over winter break. According to Churchill’s principal, John Taylor, the incident took place while Shum was fishing. Emergency responders recovered him from the water, and he was found to sustain an injury between his right leg and part of his hip.

Principal Taylor described Shum as “a wonderful young man” and expressed his deepest sympathy to Shum’s family. Shum was a very skilled and experienced fisherman. He spent many years fishing; he could even make his own fishing rods and could teach others how to fish as well. He has been described as an incredibly kind person and someone who loved the outdoors, surfing, biking, and skiing.
