Following a heartbreaking loss to the Whitman Vikings, B-CC ice hockey will look to end its hunt for the first win of its season against the 3-1 Wootton Patriots. With B-CC’s leading goal scorer, Leo Alley-Stroche, missing Friday’s game while he recovers from injuries suffered during the Whitman loss, players such as David High, Kiran Maltby, and Peter Lanpher will have to step up to help compensate for the offensive production that the team will be missing.
B-CC outshot Whitman last week and will need to continue putting pressure on a struggling Wootton defense this week. Whitman played the Barons with plenty of physicality, a trait the Patriots generally lack. Wootton’s more skill-focused style of play will likely mean fewer power-play opportunities for B-CC.
Converting on the power play was a big struggle against Whitman, with B-CC going 0/6, including an 8-minute misconduct penalty and a full-length 5-on-3 late in the third period. When discussing the team’s lack of converting crucial opportunities, Alley-Strocher’s main insight was “getting shots on net is key, and I think we really did a good job moving the puck around.”
One of B-CC’s unsung heroes from last week was the goaltender Blake Schoenebeck, who saved 22/25 shots and was able to put a stop to several Whitman scoring chances. Schoenebeck has been one of the Barons’ most consistent players throughout the season, and will have to keep his momentum rolling against a tough opponent this week.
This Friday’s game against Wootton will be played at the Rockville Ice Arena with puck drop at 9 pm.
