The Bethesda-Chevy Chase swim and dive program is one to take note of, with a history of athletes competing at the collegiate level. The team hopes to carry their competitive passion from last year into this season.
Coming off last winter, the girls’ side ended the season strong in the postseason, finishing fourth at divisionals, fourth at metros, third at regionals, and lastly, fifth at states. The boys also were awarded fourth place at divisionals, seventh at metros, fourth at regionals, and seventh at states. A typical swim and dive practice takes place at Silver Spring Recreation Center, where the swimmers and divers gather. It usually consists of a warm-up, a main set, and then a cool-down within an hour.
Many talented swimmers on the Barons team have shown their commitment over the years. Junior Swimmer Charlotte Dedolph is excited to take on a different leadership position on the team this year. She states, “I’m really looking forward to my first year as a captain and what responsibilities and roles I will take on.” A big part of the team’s success stems from the culture the captains help create by connecting upperclassmen and lowerclassmen through a shared gift swap. Dedolph explains, “I am looking forward to big little with the girls. Upperclassmen usually get assigned a lower classman, and you get to exchange gifts throughout the season.”
With clear goals, the team hopes to step into the new season prepared and ready to face any competition.
