International Charity Month takes place in January, and B-CC has scheduled many events in order to take part. B-CC’s chosen cause to help raise money this January is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of B-CC teacher Mr. Palafox, who passed away in the fall.

B-CC has scheduled donation-based bake sales at the home wrestling matches and basketball games throughout the month. Proceeds will go directly to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Fundraisers are also scheduled at various restaurants in the Montgomery County area, including Parkway Deli on Jan. 8, Henry’s Sweet Retreat on Jan. 12, Pita on the Plaza on Jan. 24, and Potomac Pizza on Jan. 16.

B-CC School Wide President, Ella Raymond, said, “The most exciting part is definitely planning fun events like the pep rally and the Staff vs. Student Family Feud, because it gets people excited about donating.”

The Staff vs. Student basketball game will take place on Jan. 10. Basketball will continue to play a role in Charity Month events, as the girls basketball team hosts a “Think Pink” Cancer Awareness game on Jan. 23, when they take on Clarksburg High School. Players will wear pink shirts for warm-ups, and donations for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be collected.

Junior and member of the Girls Basketball team, Sasha Barr, shared, “It is motivating to play for something that I have a connection to, and it is benefitting an important cause, which makes it really special.”

If students are looking to get involved but cannot make it to any of these events, there are Charity Month T-Shirts for sale on the Barons Crush Cancer website; proceeds will also be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“I encourage people to participate and donate money to help us reach our goal of 5,000 dollars, as it is a great way to give back and honor the loss of Mr. Palafox,” Raymond added.
