On September 28th, a mail carrier in Kensington, MD, was held at gunpoint and robbed. The mail carrier who had worked in the neighborhood for decades was completing her regular route when a 20-year-old male approached her with a gun.

To gain access to USPS boxes holding checks or cash, people rob mail carriers who have the required keys to enter. In this particular situation, the armed robber ran off with the mail carrier’s keys to her USPS truck. Fortunately, she was not injured during the encounter, but the police could not track down the gunman.

Ellie Watkins, a BCC student and Kensington resident says, “I feel unsafe walking around the neighborhood. You never think it would happen to you, but when something like this happens, it makes you question how safe our communities really are.” Of course, no one ever imagines their lives being affected by such events, but in today’s day and age, this is yet another reason to be prepared for anything.
