This past Saturday, January 6th, the girl’s swim and dive team beat a tough Churchill team in a close 104 to 82 win.  The boy’s swim and dive team lost to Churchill with the final score of 125 to 61.

The girl’s team put up a strong win from start to finish that showed off their well-roundedness.  The girls won relays in the 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle, and 400-yard freestyle.  Sophomore Avery Moffit won the 1-meter dive, junior Addison Mostofi won the 100-yard freestyle, junior Alice Calazza-Blum won the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Virginia Hinds won the 100-yard backstroke & 200 yard IM, and sophomore Hailey Hammond won the girl’s 100-yard butterfly & 50-yard freestyle. Following the win, Hammond said, “The win against Churchill boosted our confidence, and I am excited to see many more wins in the future. The energy brought to every meet and how we bond with each other is something no other team has and certainly makes us a force to be reckoned with.”

The boys put up a tough fight, but could not get the win against a Churchill swim and dive team that has gone 2-1 this season. Junior Zach Meisel pulled out a win in the 1-meter dive in the only event win for the boys of the day.

The Barons continue their season against Whitman High School on Saturday, January 13th, against Whitman at Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center.  The boys will face the reigning state champions, while the girls will face a consistently good Whitman girls’ team, so show out for this highly anticipated meet.
