Winter Break Won’t Stop the Momentum for Girls Basketball

Girls Basketball has dribbled their way to 15th in the DMV.

Girls basketball has taken the DMV by storm this season, starting the season 6-0, including big wins over Seneca Valley High School and Richard Montgomery High School. Seneca Valley was recently ranked 11th in the DMV by The Washington Post before the Barons beat them in a dominating win on Dec. 11 by 10 points.

The B-CC team has not only led their league but also the local news outlets. The team earned recognition in The Washington Post this week with a rank of 15th in the DMV. This made them the highest-ranked Montgomery County team. Only powerhouse private school teams with high countrywide rankings topped B-CC in the rankings. The Washington Post also wrote an article about the team after attending their game against Seneca Valley. The Barons earned even more press with Moco360 articles that highlighted their wins over Richard Montgomery High School and Walter Johnson High School, which they beat by a commanding 30 points.

Junior and starting guard, Jaylin Harried, said “It was really fulfilling to see all of the hard work pay off. As we continue the season, I do hope that the rankings can only rise.” When asked about what was different this year compared to last year, Harried said “The team is actually working like a team and not just a handful of players on the court,” adding “The team feels dynamic, and my teammates are genuine, which is a main contribution to our success.”

The girls do not plan on taking a break for the holidays. They hope to continue their winning streak in the All About the Girls Holiday Hoops Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30, when they will face some of the top high school girls teams in the area.
