The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team huddles in the last moments of their playoff game against Whitman.

Coming in on a huge win streak, and well-rested from a first-round bye, the Barons defeated one of their rivals, Walter Johnson High School, before falling in the following round to another rival, Walt Whitman High School. Both games were close and could have gone either way.

The first game was at home against Walter Johnson on Oct. 26. The girls won in a 2-0 in a close affair. Junior Roxanna Stayeas and Senior Mila Mojto each scored a goal.

In another stellar defensive showing, the girls held Walter Johnson scoreless for the second time this season. Strong defense has been the theme this season. Out of their ten wins this year, seven were shutout wins. No team scored more than two goals in a game against them all season.

The girls traveled to Walt Whitman on Tuesday, Oct. 20,  for the 4A Regional Semifinals and played hard to the very end but sadly fell 1-0. In a defensive battle, the girls fought valiantly but ultimately could not net any goals. After a narrow 1-0 victory against Whitman in late September earlier in the season, the girls knew they had a tough task ahead of them. Junior Elisha Robinson shared, “Despite the loss, we had a great season and improved so much! I am so proud of the team.”

Although their season came to an abrupt end last Tuesday, the girls had an amazing season, with a remarkable record of 10-1 in the county. Congratulations on a great season, Barons!
