On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Montgomery County police announced the arrest of a man involved in eight armed robberies in the Bethesda area over the last two months. Donnel Harris, 29, has been charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and theft. Harris is linked to multiple crimes in the areas of Rosemary Hills, 16th Street, and East-West Highway.
At the moment of his arrest, Harris was in possession of a 9mm handgun, which has added an illegal possession of firearms and ammunition charge to the list. He is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit without bond.
When asked how the crimes made him feel, B-CC senior Will Segerman, who lives on 16th Street, thought it was “definitely scary knowing that this is happening in [his] own neighborhood, but not surprising.” He feels like he “sees something questionable happen more often than not” when he is out at night.
As violence is increasing in the media, it is important to know how the B-CC community can be as safe as possible. If you see something, say something. Do not hesitate to call the Montgomery County Safe Schools Hotline at 833-MD-B-Safe (833-632-7233).
