The Barons Ice Hockey team lost in a closely contested battle to Oakdale High School in the State Quarterfinals, last Tuesday, February 27th, at the Gardens Ice House. Oakdale got out to an early lead and was able to fend off the Baron’s efforts, winning 5-2.

Oakdale started off the first period with a goal scored within the first minute of the game. B-CC then equalized at one a piece with an unassisted goal scored by Senior Sebastian Harrison. Oakdale then scored another goal to go back up top over the Barons. The first period ended with Oakdale leading 2-1.

The second period was a tightly locked battle between both teams, with no goals being scored by either team. The second period ended once again with Oakdale leading 2-1.

Oakdale ended the scoring drought with another goal to add to their lead. B-CC quickly responded with a short-handed goal scored by Senior Aleksandr Talty, assisted by Harrison. Oakdale then scored two more goals to close out the game, with the second being scored on an empty net. The third period ended with Oakdale winning by a score of 5-2.

When asked how he feels about how the team has developed throughout the season, Senior Captain Matthew Duffy said, “I’m very proud of how the team developed throughout the year. By the end of the year, it was evident that every single player improved, and I can tell that they have a good grasp of the mentality that you need to succeed.”

The Barons had more than a successful season with a 10-6 record in the regular season, and winning an additional three games in the playoffs. The Barons look to come back even stronger next season.
