Barons race to the finish line

Barons lit the track on fire during their meet on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.

Junior Jasper Sandmeyer started the boys off with a bang as he placed fourth in the Men’s High Jump.

The girls dominated the track with a number of high finishes. Freshman Nya Stoia and Sophomore Lilah Rich placed first and second in the Women’s 3200 Meter Race, absolutely dusting the competition. Senior Lily Capizzi, Freshman Nya Stoian, and Juniors Danielle Krinn and Amelia Menefee placed fourth in the Women’s 4×400 Relay. Sophomores Izabella Javadpour, Julia Esteban Chigaeva, Lily McNary, and Freshman Aurora Wu continued to destroy the competition as they placed fourth in the Women’s 4×800 Relay. Junior Kennedy Cordle finished strong with a third place finish in the Women’s Long Jump.

After the race Cordle said, “The continual growth in competing with people at such a high level really helps you see yourself grow and improve.”

“I’m really looking forward to how our relay teams perform at the championships,” Cordle continued. The Barons next competition will be the 4A West Region Championships on Monday, Feb. 5. at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning complex.
