Following two competitive losses, the Barons got back into the win column last Thursday, Sept. 14, picking up a critical win at Poolesville. The Barons dominated, with a final score of 41-13.

Starting the game-opening drive fumble by the Barons, Poolesville capitalized on good field position by running into the end zone for a touchdown. The Barons then quickly responded, with Junior Lucas Scribner breaking free and running for 60 yards, along with getting in the end zone to even the game at seven. Scribner wasn’t finished though. He then picked off a pass and ran it into the end zone for a pick-six. The Barons went on to dominate the game, scoring three straight touchdowns that went unanswered by the Falcons. Senior Carson Griffey scored two of those with his feet, and all of this occurred prior to halftime.

The second half saw a dip in scoring as Junior Lucas Scribner was not done. Scribner ran a kickoff back 90 yards for his third touchdown of the day following a Poolsville touchdown to make the score 34-13. This marked touchdowns on all three units of the game.

On the defensive side of the team, Barons showed a strong defensive line, with 20 players totaling at least one tackle. Senior Nelson Smith led the game with nine total tackles, including one of four sacks tallied by the Barons. In addition to the tackles, the Barons racked up three interceptions, one previously mentioned from Scribner and two from Junior Rico Byrd.

Senior Kiyan Jacobs said, “To get a blowout win like this is great, but we expected to go out and win so we were happy we did our job. Right now we’re focused on Kennedy, but hopefully, we can build some momentum going into a stretch of the season with a lot of hard games.”

The Barons look to get their record back to .500 with a matchup against Kennedy (0-3) at the Homecoming game this Friday.
