B-CC’s annual mulch drive, Mulch Madness, sold a record number of 23,000 bags of mulch to 900 customers, raising $184,000 for the school’s sports teams during the weekend of March 17. “Mulch Madness is a huge operation and logistical challenge,” said B-CC’s Booster President, Rex Garcia-Hidalgo, adding, “We have to coordinate all the delivery spots, getting parents to drive the U-Hauls that we rent, and much more.”

150 of B-CC’s athletes delivered thousands of mulch bags to customers in the B-CC and Walter Johnson communities. “We delivered more B-CC Mulch than ever before, we had the most volunteers than ever before,” Garcia explained. Also unlike in previous years, the vast majority of mulch deliveries were completed on Saturday, leaving four delivery routes for Sunday’s groups.

As B-CC’s sports teams get together to deliver the mulch, athletes view it as a good time to bond with their teammates. “It was really fun,” said senior Graham Leblanc, adding, “just being with your friends and delivering the mulch was actually more enjoyable than I thought it would be.”
