For the first time, a DMV native has won the Heisman Trophy. 2021 Gonzaga High School graduate Caleb Williams, a quarterback at the University of Southern California (USC), won the award after a breakout season in which he threw for over 4,000 yards and 37 touchdowns.

At Gonzaga, a private school in downtown D.C. known to produce great football players, Williams shone. He even led the school to a D.C. championship during his sophomore year.

“It’s inspiring to see someone from where I live get so much success,” said B-CC junior Noah Brown. “It can really help to encourage people to try new sports and find their own success.”

Following in the footsteps of DMV football legends like Stefon Diggs and Jonathan Ogden, Williams intends to enter the 2024 NFL draft, where he is projected to be a lottery pick in the top five. For now, Williams will return to USC and attempt to lead the Trojans to a national championship.
