On February 1, the B-CC Varsity Pompons team took home the Division I Spirit Award for the second consecutive year, standing out among seven other teams for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and crowd interaction. This marks the team’s second season competing at the Division l level after securing first place in Division ll during the 2022-23 season.
The night was electric, filled with seamless routines, friendly rivalry, and thunderous applause. Spectators from across Montgomery County showed their school spirit, donning team colors, waving shirts in the air, and cheering in response to each performance’s choreography and music.
Leading the team were captains Senior Juliet Acosta and Junior Maddie Lash. Reflecting on the victory, Acosta shared, “Winning the spirit award was really special because it came from all of our team’s hard work but also from our family and friends who came to cheer us on. As a captain I was just proud of my girls for having put in so much effort for the last six months.”
The competition was fierce, with Sherwood, Damascus, and James H. Blake securing the top three placements once again. Damascus delivered a show-stopping routine to claim first place, swapping spots with last year’s champion, Sherwood, while Blake held onto third for another season. Despite a strong showing, B-CC finished eighth out of the eight competing teams.
Fans can catch the Pompon in their final performance of the season during the winter pep rally on Wednesday, February 12.
