“I was accepted as a nominee and jumped into a 4 month process. I went through 3 rounds of interviews, passing each one, and hundreds of other applicants to get to the point I’m at today,” commented senior Juliette Cortez who was recently awarded the Posse scholarship at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
The Posse foundation gives this award, a full tuition scholarship throughout college, to a select few students all over the country who exemplify extraordinary leadership potential and academic excellence. This foundation is partnered with 64 universities and has been supported by the likes of former first-lady Michelle Obama and famous actor Lin Manuael Miranda.
At first, Cortez nearly overlooked the opportunity: she saw it as just another college email from Mrs. Heald. “My mom then practically forced me to apply, telling me it didn’t hurt to try,” said Cortez, adding, While Cortez went through the process in order to get a full ride scholarship, tuition isn’t the only thing she got out of it. “The process taught me to trust myself and give myself credit for my hard work,” said Cortez.
Not only did Cortez have faith in herself, but her friends did too: “To be honest we lowkey expected [Julia to win the scholarship] given how good of a person Juliette is.”
“We’re all very proud of her and how far she has come and I’m excited to see how much more she grows in the future,” said senior and friend of Cortez, Kyle Tatelbaum.
As she was directly admitted into the University of Wisconsin’s business school, Cortez plans on majoring in business marketing. The B-CC community could not be more proud.
