Maryland Governor Race Heats Up: Your Vote Matters

Some B-CC seniors have turned 18 and are eligible to vote in the elections – county, state, and national ones. “One vote might not sound like much, but if it’s close, every vote can make a difference, so it’s important that we take the opportunity to do so.”

The Maryland Governor race between Republican Dan Cox and Democrat Wes Moore is in full swing as the first, and likely only, debate happened in mid-October. Moore is currently projected to win by a large margin because of Maryland’s tendency to vote blue, as well as Cox’s strong allegiance to former President Donald Trump.
Some B-CC seniors have turned 18 and are eligible to vote in the elections – county, state, and national ones. “One vote might not sound like much, but if it’s close, every vote can make a difference, so it’s important that we take the opportunity to do so,” said Sam Moffitt, who is excited to vote this November.
The debate between Cox and Moore occurred on October 12, concerning issues from abortion to economic inflation. When asked if Cox would accept the results of the election no matter the outcome, he, who was a believer in the 2020 election being “stolen” from President Trump, shot back, ”I have always accepted the results of elections that are fair and following the Constitution. I intend to look to the law and uphold the Constitution.”
One big concern that came up during this debate was the meaning of freedom, with Moore talking about Cox’s repeated use of the word without being truthful, saying, “My opponent talks about freedom. But not the freedom of a woman or girl who would potentially have to carry their rapist’ child.”
Election day is November 8, and everyone is sure to flock to the polls to vote for their favorite candidate. This could be a very important day for both parties and is sure to bring controversy and questions.
