B-CC students joined the National March on Washington in Freedom Plaza to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

On Nov. 4, B-CC students, along with hundreds of thousands of people, gathered in Washington D.C.’s Freedom Plaza, to show their support for the Palestinian people and call for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Similar marches took place around the world at the same time.

Sophomore Zara Ahmed, Co-President of the Muslim Student Association, attended the protest. She said, “It seemed like a never-ending crowd of people. I was overwhelmed with a sense of hope for the people of Palestine.”

Senior Layla Hamzaoui was unable to attend, however, she noted, “I wanted to go really badly because I think it does make a change, having so many people coming together.”

More than 10 organizations coordinated and sponsored the the protest.  The thousands of people who attended, upset by the current conflicts in the Middle East, chanted and carried signs calling on Israel to “stop the massacre” in Palestine and demanding a ceasefire. Protesters also urged President Biden to stop sending US aid to Israel.

Ahmed said, “This was the largest Palestinian-driven protest in Washington DC, and to be a part of it was so very empowering.”
