With February 14 approaching, the excitement at B-CC isn’t just centered around Valentine’s Day; it’s also about Galentine’s Day! This day of love, in many forms, is dedicated to celebrating friendships. B-CC girls across all grade levels are finding meaningful and fun ways to mark the occasion.
Unlike Valentine’s Day, which often comes with expectations and pressure, Galentine’s is intentionally low-stress. Students describe it as a methodto slow down and reconnect with friends during the busy nature of high-school life. Whether it’s a casual hangout or a carefully planned night-in, the focus remains the same: celebrating the people who make life more meaningful.
For B-CC freshman Maya Ingber, Galentine’s is a chance to prioritize friendship. She explains that, “Galentine’s to me is really about coming together with my best girlfriends and celebrating our friendship.” This year, she plans on spending the holiday with her friends through shared traditions, adding that “…one Valentine’s tradition that I and I do is a PowerPoint slideshow night, it’s just a cute tradition that I’m looking forward to.”
For sophomore Afsi Gosh-Hussain, Galentine’s serves as a reminder not to take the love-filled friendships you have for granted. “I think Galentine’s is important because sometimes people can overlook Valentine’s Day just for that with their significant others, and it’s important to remember your friends on this day are equally important,” she stated. Afsi also emphasized her favorite form of friendly appreciation, mentioning, “I definitely value telling my friends how much I love them on this day and being sentimental.”
Junior Bete Zemikiel shares how Galentine’s allows students to focus on meaningful connections despite busy schedules. “Galentine’s to me means spending a lot of time with my friends and family and focusing on how much I love the people I surround myself with,” she said. Zemikiel also noted, “Even though we students are really busy during the school year, we can still take the time to celebrate and be together!”
As this Valentine’s Day nears, B-CC students aren’t focused on doing things the traditional way. Instead, they are choosing plans that feel fun, relaxed, and meaningful to them, which further strengthens the cherished friendships. No matter whether the plans are last-minute or well-prepared, Galentine’s remains a simple way to spend time with loved ones, through shared laughs, familiar faces, and simply enjoying each other’s company in all its forms.
