This Spring, the Girls’ tennis team has been fighting hard in every match. Some notable results include a dominating  7-0 sweep against Einstein, a convincing 5-2 win against Blair, and a close win over rivals Walter Johnson, ending with a score of 4-3.  An interview with Vera Irusta, a junior on the team, showed insight into how the season has been going so far.

Irusta shared, “I think we were a lot more connected this season, and we had a smaller team, so it was easier to collaborate with the girls and create relationships with everyone.” Girls’ tennis is known for its positive atmosphere, as evidenced by its success. Although they have a smaller team, Varsity girls’ tennis has made up for size in connectivity and collaboration.

Further, despite many great moments, players keep an open mind about the team’s room for improvement. When asked what could have gone better so far this season, Irusta mentioned the lack of underclassmen and their impact on the team: “I think we didn’t have a lot of freshmen this year, so the spirit days were very senior and upperclassmen-focused. I think next year we’ll have a lot more new people, and it’s going to be a lot more interesting.” Each grade offers diverse talents, creating a strong community among all members. The girls look forward to meeting and working with new skill sets next season.

Regardless of having a smaller roster, the Barons have proven that connection is just as important as numbers, resulting in a very successful 2026 season. Important wins throughout the season have kept confidence high and team bonding even higher. As the season progresses and the team looks ahead to next year, they will know how vital new talent will be.
