On Thursday, April 9th, the Barons took a tough loss to Whitman, 13-11, to move to 3-2 on the season. Starting down 5-0 hurt B-CC, and they struggled to come back and give themselves a chance at winning it. But, they were able to go on a streak of goals to get them close again, even if they did end up coming up short in the end. They played a great game offensively, being able to get a good chance or even a goal off most possessions, and they played a stable defensive game after the first quarter to give themselves a shot at winning. Overall, the Barons were able to get some good momentum late in the game that they can carry into games the rest of this season.

Offensively, the Barons produced well and created many chances for each other. Junior Henry Bergeron, who got a hat-trick in this game, highlighted, “the offense played a phenomenal game [and] every time [they] got the ball, [they] either had a good shot on goal or scored”. Well-established offensive momentum will help them beat teams later on in the season by putting up an overwhelming amount of goals.

On the defensive side, once the Barons locked in in the second quarter and put the tough first quarter behind them, they were able to maintain a stable defense and keep the game close. As Junior Henry Bergeron stated, “in the second, third, and fourth quarter [they] played a phenomenal game and [their] defensive play really stepped up”. Stable defense takes the pressure off the offence and helps a team come back in a game even if they go down early.

On April 15th, the Barons will face off against Wootton, where they will build off the momentum they have gained and, as Bergeron put it, demonstrate that “identity that they found at the end of the Whitman game and just keep that fire and motivation going.”
