Hoping to predict the unpredictable, millions of fans all over the country submit a March Madness bracket. Predicting a good bracket is a mix of both strategy and luck. Whether it’s a die-hard fan or someone who has decided to fill out a bracket for fun, simply, anyone can find success. In school, friends compare brackets and voice their votes on which team will make it far. Among the millions of people who have brackets, many B-CC students take part in the fun.

Junior Maya Schroth is an avid basketball fan and a basketball player herself. For the men’s bracket specifically, she shared, “I usually put the one seed making it to the final four because they almost always make it, and I usually like to throw in a few upsets right in the beginning, because I feel like there’s always that Cinderella story that happens.” For the women’s bracket, Schroth has a different plan. She follows women’s college basketball throughout the season, which plays a role in which teams she chooses to go far, but she also keeps in mind teams that she favors, as well as injuries.

Freshman Brooke Trabert is also one of many students who are taking part in filling out a bracket, and has a different approach. She says, “My March Madness strategy is to look at all of the teams’ records, then if I really can’t make a decision, I’ll pick the school that I’d rather go to.”

At the end of the day, each student has their own approach, and there is not one strategy that leads to success. Whether you’re a fan of basketball or just a casual viewer,  March Madness brings people together to enjoy big moments and follow the talent that comes with it.
