On Saturday, March 21st, the Barons beat Poolesville 19-4 to open up the season with some great momentum. The Barons maintained good team play, moving the ball around and getting everyone involved. They also held strong on defense, playing with clean coverage and forcing their opponent to give up the ball often. Great performance on both sides of the ball led to a big win to start the season.
On the offensive side, the barons had many assisted goals. Senior Owen Isaacson stated, “[They] moved the ball around, were pretty unselfish and got good looks on offense.” Getting some good offense going early on in the season will help the team by giving them an established system that can overwhelm opponents’ defense and lead to a large amount of goals in future games.
On the other side of the ball, the Barons made sure to play with clean defense while also causing a lot of steals. Isaacson explained, “[they] were pretty disciplined on defense, not overacting a lot and causing a lot of turnovers”. Having a strong and legal defensive play will help limit the production of opponents’ offense later in the season.
Today, the Barons will hope to keep this momentum against Blair to move to 2-0 on the season and maintain the keys that they used to win against Poolesville.
