The swim team at B-CC continues to impress, with outstanding new times in the pool. Both Hailey Hammond and Virginia Hinds broke a B-CC swim record this season, awing the crowd, allowing the team to finish strong during the most important races of the season. B-CC has a history of strong swimmers, and breaking school records is not an easy task.

Hailey Hammond, a senior swimmer on the swim team, broke BCC’s 100 meter butterfly record at metros with a time of 55.73 seconds. Virginia Hinds, another senior on the team, broke the 100-meter backstroke record with a time of 53.26 seconds. Behind every record broken, there are hours spent practicing, early mornings, late nights, and the inability to give up. It isn’t just a number, but it reflects the discipline and passion that push athletes to reach new levels of performance. Breaking the school record meant a lot to Hammond. The person who held the record before her was someone she looked up to her entire life. Hammond shared how it was her “I made it moment. I just had such a rough journey, and there were points where I was just like is it even worth it, and it was.”

When asked for advice for younger swimmers, Hammond emphasizes the importance of simply enjoying what you’re doing. She added that the more she focused on having fun and letting loose, the more her performance skyrocketed. At early stages in the process, she had doubts, but she didn’t allow them to consume her. Hammond stated, “I didn’t think it was possible at certain points throughout my swim journey,” but she kept showing up. Through all of the unseen hours and sacrifices made, Hammond and Hinds showed what true passion and never giving up can lead to.
