Friday, February 27, 2026, Bethesda Chevy Chase High School’s girls’ basketball team went head-to-head with Walter Johnson to earn the win and move on to the next level of playoffs. B-CC beat WJ 46-38. The Barons were ahead the whole game and held on through all 4 quarters to win the regional quarterfinals.

Junior Chelsey Barr led the team with 18 points, and Senior Lucia Horgan followed closely behind with 12 points. For a game with so much pressure, the girls maintained high energy and supported one another, which, according to Horgan, is a leading factor in the team’s success. As far as what went well, Horgan says, “We moved the ball really well on offense, and I think we had a lot of energy as a team and we were really celebrating each other.” Though the team is undeniably talented, there are always opportunities for learning and improvement. Horgan states, “We need to improve on handling the press under pressure…and not letting the other team get back up.” The ladies had a rocky start to the season, but there has been significant improvement since then. Horgan notes that the chemistry has improved significantly, and the girls have grown much closer on and off the court.

The Lady Barons face Churchill on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 at Churchill for the regional semi-finals. There is no doubt the girls will come with a game face on, ready to apply what they know best on the court. Don’t forget to pop out at Churchill to show support for the ladies and to bring the energy to an all-time high so they can secure the win.
