On Friday, February 13th, B-CC faced off against Blake and lost 69-55. The Barons had great momentum and dominated the first half by maintaining a lead and having really good ball movement. But, Blake was able to make a half court short at the halftime buzzer to carry some big momentum into the second half and cut the Barons’ lead down to 4. Late in the third quarter, the Barons were up 44-41, but after that, they struggled to score and maintain possession, and the scoreboard reflected it. The Blake Bengals scored many points off turnovers in the second half, helping them build a lead and extend it, resulting in a win. Overall, the Barons started off the game with a lot of momentum, but unfortunately, they were not able to sustain it, leading to a tough loss in the end.
Offensively, the Barons were able to pass well early and make shots from different spots on the court. As Junior Michael Bean said, they “were able to find [their] open teammates, and were knocking down shots early”. Early momentum can really bring an opponent down and is an important value to have for the rest of the season.
On the defensive side, the Barons limited the other team’s best player and made sure he couldn’t get hot. Junior Michael Bean highlighted, “They held the leading scorer to only four points the whole game, which is a really good thing”. Limiting the opponent’s star player has been something the Barons have done well in other games this season.
Overall, the Barons had a close game where they maintained momentum in the first half but struggled in the second half, which is why they unfortunately lost. As Junior Michael Bean explained, they “started off really strong, moving the ball well and jumping out to an early lead”, but “once the second half started, it all went downhill, [they] weren’t moving the ball well and kept turning it over”.
Next up, the Barons play Rockville on Friday night. They will need to play a complete game and gain some momentum for the last few games of the season.
