On Wednesday, February 4th, the B-CC Boys Basketball faced off against Wootton in a tight match and came out on top 70-66. The Barons stayed strong throughout a game that was a tightly contested match till the end. The Barons’ performance was highlighted by maintaining possession well, avoiding turnovers, and playing strong, aggressive defence.

Some specific Barons to highlight from the game were Seniors Jack Allen and Noah Grosberg. As Senior Tim Byrd noted, “Jack had 10 points, almost a double-double”. The Barons’ star center was crashing the rim, getting rebounds, and getting lots of points from the free-throw line, which are important in a tight game. Byrd also highlighted, “Noah stole the ball well even when guarding the best player, Chase Mitchell”. Noah has been an important defender throughout the season, always shutting down the other team’s star player.

Offensively, the Barons were able to draw fouls and outscore their opponent even though they weren’t shooting their best. Byrd said, “free throw attempts were the most of the season [and they] showed an ability to play inside and out”. Getting easy points from driving to the basket hard is crucial for tough opponents later on in the season.

On the defensive side, the boys were able to shut down Wootton’s star player. Byrd said, “ [We] made him a passer instead because [we] know he wants to score”. Being able to shut down a key player hurt the opponents’ performance and allowed the Barons to come out on top.

The Barons’ next game will be against Blake on Friday, February 13th, who has Maryland commit Baba Oladuton. B-CC will need to limit his production and defend him hard to come out with a win in that game. Come out to the game at home to support our Barons as they take on a 5-star recruit.
