As the 2025-2026 winter sports season reaches the halfway mark, the B-CC girls basketball team has been busy practicing and working together to successfully reach their goals and thrive on and off the court. The week of January 12-January 16 was a successful week, as the girls were able to secure 2 wins out of the 3 games.
On Monday, January 12, the Barons faced Churchill High School away. The Barons lost 43-49 in a tight game. Charley Thiede is a freshman on the varsity girls’ basketball team. She shared her thoughts on her performance during the game: “I think I played pretty good defense and helped the team create opportunities to score.” Even though the Barons lost, they still put up an impressive fight to keep the scoreboard close. “We did put up a good fight against a team that was really good, so I think we played pretty well, ”Thiede said. Thiede prides the team on its defense, which is one of its many strengths and allows it to challenge opponents on offense.
On Wednesday, January 14, the team faced Gaithersburg High School at the palace. The Baron’s won against Gaithersburg, 52-39. Junior Maya Schroth plays for the varsity girls’ basketball team and is excited about the first win of the week. She says, “I think we’re all really close with one another, which helps with the communication on the floor.” Even though the girls had an outstanding game, there is always room for improvement. “I think we need to improve on spacing out the floor, that’s something we can just get better at together,” Maya says.
Friday, January 16, the girls played Northwest High School. The Lady Baron’s kept with the winning streak from Wednesday, and won against Northwest, a blowout 62-27. Evie Bean is a Freshman on varsity, and there’s no doubt that she’s a staple player on the team. She reflects on her performance from Friday’s game, saying, “I think I did well handling pressure because the defense was pretty good.” It’s clear the girls have great chemistry on the floor, and Evie notes this is a result of the friendships they’ve built with one another. “That helps us when we’re on the court because we can trust each other with the ball when passing to each other.” Hopefully, Evie will be able to achieve her personal goal for the season, to get over 5 points every game. Stay tuned in with girls’ basketball to see!
The Lady Barons now have a record of 7 wins and 7 losses. As the upcoming weeks commence, the girls will be facing rivals again from the beginning of the season. The team is looking for another win to hopefully build up momentum as the second half of the season begins. Be sure to pop out at the game to keep the spirits high, so the girls can secure the win.
