On Friday, January 16th, the Barons took on Northwest at home to hopefully bring their record to 6-4, but they came up short, losing 72-69 and taking home their 2nd overtime loss of the season. The Barons worked to get easy layups throughout the game with good cuts and quick passes, but they struggled to stop the quick two point jumps shots on defense.
The Barons were able to go hard the whole game, never letting up, which allowed the game to be a tight match. Senior Jack Allen said, “[they] played hard from the first whistle to the last [and] never gave up throughout the whole game”. Playing with energy and intensity throughout the whole game will help lead to wins in future games later in the season.
On the offense, they were able to play well as a team and get good shots up, leading to a lot of points. Jack Allen stated that, “[they] shot the ball pretty well [and] all of [their] made baskets were assisted”. Good team play and smart shots lead to offensive success, which is a valuable asset for the team for the rest of the season.
On the other side of the ball, the Barons played tight and clean defense throughout the game. Jack Allen explained, “[they] didn’t foul them very much and played solid defense”. Tight defense and avoiding fouls lead to fewer points let up and less easy free throws allowed, making opponents have to work to get on the board.
On Friday, the Barons will face Kennedy at home, where they hope to get a win against a talented team that stands at 7-4 on the season.
