The Bethesda Chevy Chase girls’ basketball team has been on a roll for the past two years, but unfortunately, during the current season, the girls haven’t been following the same level of success. The girls have started the season a little rocky, with a 1-5 record and placed 11th in the region. The girls’ only win so far was against Blair, a blowout 61-22. As it reaches 2 months since winter sports have commenced, will the Lady Barons be able to turn it around and make a revival?

Ashley Agard is a senior at B-CC and one of the three captains of the girls’ basketball team. Agard has been a part of the Varsity girls’ basketball team since her sophomore year, making her a 3-year varsity player. As a captain, Agard says, “I try to talk to my younger teammates, and be a leader, and be a mentor to them…I’m trying to leave my mark and help them get better.” Her experience with wins and losses helps her understand what works and what doesn’t on the court. With new players on the team, of course, some challenges arise. Agard mentions, “It’s hard to have chemistry, and [to] know how their style of playing and match [es] your stuff, “ but she is confident the team will build momentum and connect to win future games.

Lucia Horgan is another captain of the 2025-2026 season of the girls’ basketball team. Horgan is a senior and plans to leave a mark through her leadership and dedication to the team’s success. As the 2025-2026 season began, it was clear that building team chemistry was crucial for effective play, given the increase in underclassmen. Horgan says, “ We have a lot of changes in the dynamics, so getting used to that, [ and ] getting used to playing together with this group.” A goal Horgan has for the season and team is to build team chemistry and move the ball better with teammates. “ We’re doing a lot more scrimmaging than we did earlier in the season, and we’re keeping ourselves more accountable for turnovers and mistakes.”

Ashley Agard and Lucia Horgan have high hopes and ambition for the upcoming games in the season. With their skill and knowledge of the game, they hope to guide the Barons to success through strategic planning and hard work. The Lady Barons are hosting Walter Johnson on January 9th for a divisional game. Be sure to support the Lady Barons at their future games, where we hope to see some great wins.
