B-CC comes back from break with a big win against Wootton 71-69. The Barons kept it close throughout the game, but they were eventually able to come out on top in a tight game in overtime. After the game, B-CC improved its record to 3-3 on the season, while Woottoon remained winless at 0-9. The Barons’ performance was highlighted by various assisted shots, lots of momentum-changing three-pointers throughout the game, and tight defense in overtime, resulting in their exciting win.
Offensively, the Barons were very successful in passing and playing as a team. Junior Xavier Shanley highlighted that the team had “[Good] ball movement [and had] a gameplan around moving the ball fast.” Ball movement led to success in this game and will help the Barons late on in the season, as it keeps the defense moving and gets all players involved.
On the defensive side, the Barons improved later in the game at guarding and preventing points. As Junior Xavier Shanley explained, “Early on in the game, [they] had pretty bad help defense and it led to [the] other team scoring a lot of points,” but, he continued, “…in the second half, they started playing more help defense and [it] led to more steals.” As said before, tight defense helps the Barons win in this close game, and it will continue to be important against tough opponents later on in the season.
Junior Xavier Shanley highlighted some specific players’ performances, including a key play from Senior Khalil Muhammad:“A five-point play at the end of the third quarter [which helped them] be up five going into the fourth quarter.” He also highlighted the performance of Senior Massi Person: “He went 6/7 from the field, scoring 17 points, which definitely helped [them] get the win.” Big plays and talented performances like these were very valuable for this win and for future wins later in the season.
The Barons will hope to keep this momentum going in their next game against Gaithersburg on Wednesday. If they win, they will move to 5-4 on the season. Junior Xavier Shanley highlighted, “intensity and more energy off the bench for future games.”
