Each year, two B-CC athletes—one male and one female—are recognized as B-CC Athletes of the Year. The winners of the award this year were Noah Grosberg and Brooke Doukouris. This award recognizes athletes who not only excel on the field and court, but outside the game. These athletes are recognized as outstanding leaders and teammates who prioritize inclusivity and sportsmanship.

Senior Noah Grosberg received the male athlete of the year award. Grosberg is an outstanding athlete, holding the captainship of both varsity soccer and basketball in his senior year.

When Grosberg felt elated at the news. “I was definitely very happy and surprised as well,” Grosberg said. “I was very grateful for winning the award. It’s an awesome feeling.”

Grosberg reflects on his time as a B-CC athlete and how it shaped his high school experience and his future endeavours. For Grosberg, athletics were more than just another after-school activity; they played a major role in making the daunting transition from middle school to high school much easier. Through basketball and soccer, he met some of his closest friends and had coaches he looked up to as role models, who played a huge part in helping him develop throughout high school.

Along with the friendships Grosberg made, he will leave B-CC with many unforgettable memories during his high school career. “My best memory is at home, a comeback win against undefeated Whitman this past year in basketball, [and making] game-winning free throws. That was pretty awesome,” he states.

The recognition Grosberg earned was more than deserved, and his leadership and positivity on and off both the court and the field are what led him to earn B-CC’s Male Athlete of the Year.

But he wasn’t the only one who had their achievements recognized by BCC; Junior Brooke Doukouris received the award for female athlete of the year. Doukouris is a three-sport varsity athlete and an incredible leader. She has been on varsity soccer since her sophomore year, helping to bring the Barons to the state final as the team’s starting goalie. Doukouris is also a three-year member of the varsity basketball team and is a crucial part of the team’s run to the state final in 2024. Moreover, Doukouris has also been an impactful three-year member of the B-CC softball team.

Doukouris notes how gratifying winning this award felt for her. “I felt really honored. It felt good to be recognized by my coaches,” Doukouris explains. The award really displays the impact that Doukouris has had on all of her sports and B-CC athletics as a whole.

She also explains how being a B-CC athlete has impacted her life. “Everyone I’ve met and all of my coaches have had a big impact on me,” Doukouris says.

In addition to the effect sports have had on her life, Doukouris has also had her own effect on the athletic program. Doukouris was a part of two separate state championships as a B-CC athlete. During her freshman year, Doukouris was a part of a history-making girls’ basketball team. That year, they made it all the way to the state championship. Along with her basketball championship, this past year Brooke Doukouris led the Barons’ girls soccer team to the state championship. These two championships have been two of Doukouris’ favorite memories as a Baron.

Overall, both Grosberg and Doukouris have had tremendous and impactful roles as B-CC athletes. Being recognized as athletes of the year truly underscores the immense impacts that both Doukouris and Grosberg have had on B-CC athletics.
