On January 11, 2026, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes took place, celebrating and awarding the year’s most outstanding movies and television shows. The Golden Globes are known as the show that kicks off Hollywood award season — this year being hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. Let’s take a deeper look at the wins, losses, and other fun aspects of the iconic award show.
Some recently released shows and films were big winners at the Golden Globes this year. “KPop Demon Hunters,” the animated movie that took the world by storm this past summer, won two awards for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song for “Golden.” “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor, won a whopping four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress. In the television world, Netflix’s “Adolescence” starring Owen Cooper also won four awards. “Adolescence” also did incredibly well at the 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, winning eight Emmys this past September. Other fan favorites also won some awards, such as Timothée Chalamet, who won his first Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for “Marty Supreme.” B-CC Senior Grace Timmons shared, “I really liked the show ‘Adolescence.’ I thought it was really interesting, and it wasn’t too long a show that you got bored, and I think every award it won, it deserved.”
There were also quite a few shutouts during the awards this year. Most notably, the sequel “Wicked: For Good” went 0 for 5 for its nominations. This was surprising, considering that during the 82nd Annual Golden Globes in 2025, “Wicked” went home with the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Similar to “Wicked: For Good,” Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” also went 0 for 5 for all of its nominations. Another shocking outcome for television was “White Lotus” being completely shut out despite being nominated for six awards. Timmons added, “I think ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ was overhyped…I don’t think it is equivalent to a lot of the stuff that was nominated.”
Comedian Nikki Glaser returned to host the award show for the second year in a row. Glaser is known for her “roasting” style comedy, which she has seemed to perfect, with her being able to take jabs at celebrities but never crossing the line. In her opening monologue, Nikki made jokes about numerous actors and directors, such as Kevin Hart for his infamous short height, Leonardo DiCaprio for being known to date women significantly younger than him, the “Wicked” cast and director team for splitting the performance in two in an attempt to make more money, and many more. Throughout the monologue, Nikki made many jokes; however, she also made sure to praise the incredibly talented people around her, as well as expressing her gratitude for having the honor of hosting the Golden Globes for a second year in a row. B-CC Junior Juliet Cliche commented on Glaser’s performance, “I think she really knows how to get a crowd going, maybe cause some controversy, but obviously it’s good to watch as an audience member.”
Overall, with new movies, new shows, and even new award categories, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes were filled with well-deserved wins, moving speeches, and, overall, a fun experience for viewers to watch at home.
