B-CC Ice Hockey has gotten off to a shaky start this year. They have started the season with a 0-8 record, one of the losses coming via forfeiture to Sherwood.
Following a recent loss to Wootton, B-CC senior and captain Ben Lyons credited the team’s struggles to “our intensity right now. I think one of our biggest things is our skill work. But even with that, anything can be worked around with your intensity.” Lyons did not neglect to mention the team’s lack of physicality and aggressiveness: “We’re not going into the corners, we’re not fighting, we’re not winning the puck battles that we need to win.”
The team only scored 6 goals in their 7 games played, three of which came from junior Leo Alley-Strocher, who was recently forced to miss time due to injury. The team was also without the offensive presence of Peter Lanpher, who spent the better part of the first half fulfilling his commitments to B-CC’s Cross-Country team.
The second half of the Barons’ season did not start the way the team would have hoped, with the team suffering a 10-1 loss to the Churchill Bulldogs this past Friday. Much of the team’s upcoming schedule should be easier, with the team facing off against several teams from Montgomery County’s second division. B-CC will meet with schools such as Richard Montgomery, Northwest/Quince Orchard, and Upper Montgomery (Damascus, Poolesville, Clarksburg, and Seneca Valley).
This Friday, the Barons will take on the Richard Montgomery Rockets at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel with puck drop at 9:20 pm. Next Friday, the Barons will play a game at 5:20 pm at Rockville Ice Arena, where they will look to turn the tide against the Sherwood Warriors.
