On Friday, December 19th, BCC’s College and Career Center will host an alumni panel during fourth period in the auditorium. The event will feature 13 BCC graduates who will return to campus to answer questions and share their experiences after high school.
The panel will be run in a talk-show format, giving students the opportunity to hear from alumni who have gone on to attend a wide range of institutions, including Ivy League universities, HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges/Universities), international schools, and other colleges. Organizers hope the variety of perspectives will help juniors and seniors better understand the many paths available after graduation.
Senior Julia Worthington, who interns at the College and Career Center, emphasized the value of hearing directly from former BCC students. “This event will offer a unique insight by creating a place for kids to ask questions to people who took their same classes, had the same teachers, and had the same goals,” Worthington stated. “But also for the graduates to guide students with goals similar to theirs on what they should or should not do, based on their personal experience.”
Because the speakers once shared the same academic environment, their advice is intended to feel relatable and realistic. Alumni will discuss what helped them succeed, challenges they faced during the transition to college, and lessons they learned along the way.
