A shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, left two people dead and nine others injured, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. and led to a heavy police presence and an hours-long lockdown across the campus as officers searched for the suspect and secured the area.
Students were ordered to shelter in place while emergency responders blocked off multiple buildings and treated those injured. Police vehicles surrounded the campus, and parts of the university remained unsecured until later that night. The shooting disrupted normal campus activities and quickly became a major safety concern for students and their families.
The incident also affected families far from campus. Lincoln Fisher, a junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, learned about the shooting when he realized his brother, Teddy Fisher, a B-CC alumnus and senior at Brown University, was nearby at the time of the incident. “Teddy was in a library building next to a building where the shooter was, so he wasn’t that far away,” Fisher said.
Although Teddy did not hear gunshots, he was placed under lockdown along with other students in the building. Police used the ground floor as a temporary headquarters, and students were required to remain inside for several hours. Teddy remained locked inside from approximately 4 p.m. until nearly 11 p.m., before being moved to an athletic facility. Although Teddy was not physically injured, the experience was still very unsettling for Fisher and his family. “It was obviously, like, scary to see something like all over the news happen right where my brother was”, Fisher said.
The shooting has left a lasting impact on the Brown University community as the investigation continues. The incident has raised concerns about campus safety and the growing issue of gun violence at schools across the country.
