On October 5, B-CC’s official newspaper, The Tattler, received a pending comment with threatening and antisemitic remarks on an article about Rosh Hashanah. The message was never made public, as it was flagged by The Tattler’s manual review process.
This hateful comment comes less than two weeks after the Walt Whitman High School newspaper, The Black and White, received a similar antisemitic and racist message.
B-CC Principal Dr. Mooney put out a statement detailing the incident, as well as the administration’s response. The Montgomery County Police Department, the MCPS Office of School Support and Improvement, and the MCPS Office of Systemwide Safety and Security have been contacted. Dr. Mooney reassured the community that, “At this time, there is no viable threat to the school.”
Students are encouraged to reach out to their administrators or to take advantage of B-CC’s counseling services during this difficult time. Students and parents are also encouraged to consult the resources linked in Dr. Mooney’s statement to help guide discussion around the subjects of race and racism.
