With new additions on the way, Kensington is soon to become a food hotspot for B-CC students. Carmen’s Italian Ice & Cafe, founded in 2001, is currently located in Rockville and Olney. Carmen’s serves homemade New Jersey-style Italian Ice with over 70 different Italian ice flavors, 40 frozen custard flavors, milkshakes, and more sweet treats. Opening up soon in Kensington at 10309 and 10311 Kensington Parkway, the new shop adds to an already great shopping center that includes Old Town Market, The Dish and Dram, and Baby Cat. Senior Mattie Weiss expressed, “I am very excited for Carmen’s to come to Kensington because I love Carmens but can never go because the closest one is Rockville, but now I will be able to go more often.”
Another popular food stop, Moby Dick, is opening up at 150506 Connecticut Ave in the same shopping center as Chipotle and Five Guys. Moby Dick is an esteemed local Persian Kabob chain with 26 other locations in Maryland. Originally a small sandwich shop in Bethesda, founder Mike Daryoush made the switch to a Persian menu and added a traditional clay oven to the kitchen. Since then, Moby Dick has continued to grow its Persian menu, offering a variety of kabobs, salads, sandwiches, dips, and house-made pita bread. Senior and Kensington Resident Mckenna Harper said, “Kensington has definitely been lacking in food options. We have a lot of antique shops, but those [shops] are honestly not useful shops for residents. Moby Dick is a great addition, and will for sure make Kensington the place to be.”
