Dr. Mooney has confirmed to The Tattler that all bathrooms will reopen during lunch starting on Monday, Sept. 16. To combat vaping on school grounds, the administration previously maintained a policy that enforced the closure of all but a limited number of bathrooms during lunch. However, they have elected to withdraw this policy, thus allowing students to use the bathrooms at their convenience and outside of academic instruction.
This change comes after pushback from the community about the locked bathrooms. Junior Tobin Connelly said, “I’m so excited that the bathrooms are finally going to open. It’s super annoying when they are closed during lunch and I need to use them.” While the administration is eliminating this specific policy, they are determined to inhibit student vaping.
The bathroom closure policies have been in place since 2022.
