This school year, new security policies have been implemented to enhance safety and ensure a more secure learning environment for students and staff. Starting this year, all individuals entering the school are required to scan into the building using their school IDs. Mr. Avila, School Attendance Secretary, noted, “I’m seeing improvements to the amount of students coming in late, and seeing students who come in late are coming in earlier.” This measure reflects the school’s commitment to decreasing the number of late students while keeping track of their attendance.
Along with the new ID scanning policy, a new countywide rule requires all students to wear their IDs on lanyards throughout the school day. Avila added, “This mechanism will help keep track of students more efficiently and effectively.”
The administration has also enforced the PMD (Personal Mobile Device) regulations more strictly this school year. Before each period begins, an announcement is made over the loudspeaker instructing all students to put their phones away until the end of class. Several teachers have also been implementing new phone pockets, which require students to put their phones in designated areas in the classroom, making them inaccessible for the duration of the class period.
Junior Maura Cupo stated, “I have a lot of classes where they take my phones now, but it keeps me focused and on task.”
Principal Dr. Mooney has established a clear line of communication with the community about all new policies through weekly messages on Remind. “I want to make sure everyone is aware that this newsletter will be one of the primary ways we communicate with students, families, and caregivers regarding important events, deadlines, and opportunities at B-CC,” said Mooney via Remind.
