Did you know that B-CC has a #1-ranked squash player in the country? B-CC Sophomore Zack Ingber plays squash for the B-CC squash team and is ranked #1 in the country for squash in boys under 17’s despite being 15 years old. But what is squash? Squash is a racket sport usually played by two people on a rectangular court enclosed by four walls. Zack described it, “You’re in a box with four walls. The back wall is glass, and you’re trying to hit the front wall alternating with your opponent. There are lines that you need to hit in between, and you’re trying to make the ball bounce twice”.
Zack started playing squash at 3 years old and started playing competitively at 8. Zack said, “[My] father played in college, and he also played tennis. [Zack] played tennis growing up and took on squash [from his father]”. He added that he “love[s] meeting new people, and [his] best friends in the world have been met through playing squash”.
Zack plays on the B-CC squash team, and he said, “[It’s] a great supplemental way to play [and] it’s really nice having a team camaraderie aspect”. Zack added, “Coach Matt Rosser is amazing and really adapts to the players’ needs [and] really understands the game”.
Zack describes his training schedule: “running like two or three sessions a day, one squash session usually at night, [and] going to the gym after school, maybe three times a week”. As seen, Zack has an intense schedule of squash practices and gym sessions, but that’s the grind that leads to success.
Zack concluded by emphasizing that, “B-CC squash is a super welcoming community [and] a great way to get involved””. He also added that you can see him play in the US Junior Squash Open on YouTube in three weeks.
