That winning mindset is what led the girls’ field hockey team to their victory in the first playoff game for the 2025 season. On October 23rd, the Lady Barons suited up to play their rivals, Whitman, knowing it was going to be a challenging game. The girls, without a doubt, had an amazing season, but it all comes down to their performances in the playoffs. But to no surprise, the girls were able to use skill and communication to secure the win for the first game.
At the start of the game, the vibes were a little down. “I think we needed to improve our mindsets and get into that winning mindset since at first we were pretty doubtful,” Juliet Cliche said. But once the first goal was scored by Julia Hill, there was a complete attitude shift, and the girls knew they had it in them to win. The other team did score after this, so the girls realized they needed to step it up even more. “They brought the energy to a high, hyped themselves up, and put on their game faces. There was a tie on the scoreboard, and seconds were left in the game, causing the game to go into overtime. This increased the pressure, bringing the tensions to an all-time high. But the barons were able to hustle and score their second goal in overtime, bringing the score to 2-1. “We all ran to each other after Julia scored the goal in overtime, and we all were just so happy and in shock, and everyone was just super hype,” Cliche says. There is a lot of confidence in the girls to keep the good work up and to continue bringing in the wins.
