Balancing athletics inside and outside of school can be challenging but exciting for many young athletes. It takes a lot of discipline to stay on top of everything, especially for athletes who play at an elite level.
Sophomore Emma Karver plays on the girls’ varsity volleyball team at B-CC, but she also brings her talents to her club team outside of school. Karver has played volleyball for almost four years and shares the notable differences between club and school volleyball. “In high school, you only have the players at your school and can’t recruit for specific positions. Meanwhile, during club volleyball, they take players based on their positions, which allows the team to compete at a higher skill level.” She explained how recruitment for specific positions is a key difference between the two teams.
Karver shares how high school volleyball helps her become a better all-around player compared to club ball. “High school volleyball helps me grow more as a player because it gives me the opportunities to learn and adjust to different positions.” School volleyball gives her a different perspective on the game than specialized training on her club team. The different positions help her become a more versatile player, which allows her to develop new skills as she continues her volleyball career.
