While the Super Bowl attracts over 120 million viewers annually, many watch solely for the halftime performance. More interesting for some than the actual football game, the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show is typically announced in late August or September. This year, at the end of the Cowboys vs. Packers game on September 28, Bad Bunny was announced as the main act for the 2026 halftime show.
Following the announcement, Bad Bunny has faced harsh backlash from Fox News and other conservative sites. The United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, recently stated that ICE will be “all over” this year’s Super Bowl. Bad Bunny addressed these comments in his opening monologue on the first episode of Saturday Night Live S51, responding in Spanish and editing clips of Fox reporters together to say “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next president.”
While Bad Bunny’s music is primarily in Spanish, he has gained increasing popularity among a wider audience, including many B-CC students. Senior Julia Ordonez said, “I like his music because it’s fun, but at the same time it shares serious stories. He’s also a good person, which in my opinion makes his music better.”
Though this is his first time headlining, Bad Bunny performed at the halftime show in 2020 during Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s show. He performed songs “I Like It” and “Callaita.” Now, fresh off his widely successful 3-month tour in Puerto Rico, this will be his first show in the U.S. after intentionally not playing any dates there to protect his audience from potential ICE threats.
Lots of B-CC students are eager to see this show. Senior Bella Javadpour shared, “I’m excited to see his performance, despite all of the negative feedback he has gotten. He is a great performer, and he deserves this big opportunity.” This year’s Super Bowl will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Students and teachers alike will be watching both the game and the halftime show, excited to see one of the most popular musicians from our generation perform on one of the biggest stages in the world.
