On Friday, October 10, B-CC Football took on the Walter Johnson (WJ) Wildcats in a highly anticipated homecoming and rivalry game. The Barons outlasted WJ, winning by a score of 28-21. Before last year, the Wildcats had won the previous 7 meetings between the two teams; however, the last 2 seasons have been a different story, with B-CC emerging on top both times.
After the game, Coach Schwartzback mentioned that “We had a few guys go down tonight, and every time…one of our players stepped in and filled the void.” This is not the first time this season that the Barons have had to battle injuries, but they did not let adversity get the best of them.
Junior JP Ciavola remarked after the win, “[Our] offense was dominating. 28 points, you know, against a team like WJ, that’s a great thing to see.” It is worth noting that Walter Johnson’s defensive struggles have been impactful this season, averaging just over 26 points against per game.
Because of that, B-CC was able to score 4 TDs, two coming from Jalen Ball, one from Ciavola, and a game-winning score from Jack Nucci. After the game-winning touchdown, the B-CC defense had two valuable pass breakups in the end zone to secure the win. The defense showed out all game by making many valuable tackles and stops. They also forced a fumble, which led to the Barons’ second touchdown, giving them a 14-7 lead at halftime. The Barons fought hard in the second half on both sides of the ball to come out on top and get a much-needed win on Homecoming night.
The Barons will hope to keep this momentum going into their Senior Night game against the Blake Bengals on Friday at 6:30.
