Junior Amelia Morton is halfway through her 3rd year of playing varsity field hockey for B-CC. She’s held the position of captain since her sophomore year, leading the girls through successful seasons. Her 9 years of experience with this sport have built her skills, contributing to her exceptional performance for the Barons and her club team, Next Level. “My favorite part of field hockey is definitely the community and how everyone literally knows everybody else,” Morton said. Morton feels that these connections are especially evident when she plays against her teammates on her club team with the B-CC team.
Morton has created countless memories with the sport. Still, she said, “My favorite memory was beating Whitman during overtime last year during the regular season or beating Urbana in the regular season this year…” Morton’s contributions to the barons are definitely notable, especially her extraordinary hat trick in the game opener against Richard Montgomery, leading them to their victory. Morton was an excellent player before joining the Barons, but has learned and grown so much from her coaches and teammates. “I love playing for BCC because Colby, the coach, makes it a really healthy environment and has handshakes with every player that we do as we’re announced at the beginning of the games,” she said.
Morton and her teammates on the field hockey team consistently demonstrate spirit in their sport. “We have really cute traditions on B-CC, like a cookie tin and doing ‘take them down’ before games, and ribbons,” she said. Morton’s special superstition before games is to do a chest bump with her teammate Chlesey Barr, giving her good luck for every game. Make sure to look out for Junior Amelia Morton, a star who will continue to be an outstanding player on the field.
