Whether you’re dressing for Miami, Nashville, Vegas, or New York, homecoming themes are a hot topic here at B-CC. For decades, schools have chosen an exciting theme for the dance along with iconic spirit days leading up to the big night. This year’s theme, chosen by the spirit community, is different cities, differing for each grade. With the freshmen representing New York, the sophomores representing Nashville, the juniors representing Miami, and the seniors representing Vegas, all students have a chance to express their school spirit.
To display their school pride, students dress up with eccentric accessories, coordinated outfits, and face paint. Junior Audrey Balint plans to participate in this year’s theme. Balint says, “I think it’s super fun and interesting. It definitely increases school spirit and makes the dance more hype.” The students’ participation in showing up and showing out makes homecoming week a highly anticipated event and sets the week apart from the rest of the school year.
Additionally, Homecoming themes are a long-lasting tradition. This generational celebration has evolved, but it has always brought out the same school spirit in the students. Mr. Zehner, a teacher at B-CC, graduated from the school in 1983. In the past, homecoming was celebrated by each class competing to build the best float and decorating the best hallway corresponding to the theme. When asked his opinion on homecoming themes and if they increase school spirit, Zehner states, “I thought it was fun…Anything that gets people thinking about B-CC is good.”
Homecoming themes are a significant part of our school spirit and have been for decades. This iconic tradition encourages students to represent themselves and brings the school together as a community. So, Barons, come to school this week showcasing your B-CC pride with each city theme!
