The B-CC Boys’ varsity soccer team has faced a tough start to the regular season, with two narrow defeats in the first two games. On Monday evening, they faced off against Northwest High School at the Guck in a tight and competitive game. Some wonderful goals were scored, but Northwest kept on retaliating. Our Barons fought hard to keep their lead, but couldn’t secure the win, losing 4-3 in heartbreaking fashion.
Later in the week, on Wednesday, B-CC played a close game against Gaithersburg on the road. A goal from Jacob Ruiz and Nikhil Pemmeraju forced overtime, with the score tied 2-2. However, a late goal from the opposing team crushed the Brrons, resulting in another disappointing defeat. Tempers were high as frustration was setting in among the players and coaches.
Scoring goals doesn’t seem to be the issue for the varsity team, as they racked up five goals in their first two games. But to succeed, the team must work together as a defensive unit.
Varsity boys have a matchup against Wootton coming up next on September 15, starting the week off with a challenge. A bad start to the season can potentially send teams down into a spiral of defeats, so spirits should stay up, and tactics should be firmly established. They are going into the game on Monday knowing expectations are high, as improvement is definitely needed to put the season back on track.
